NUR 1812     Child Bearing Foundations for the Transition to the Registered Nurse Role     2 Credit Hours

This course is designed to facilitate the transition from the role of the Licensed Practical Nurse to the role of the Associate Degree Registered Nurse. The course further develops the student's ability to utilize the nursing process in the care of families throughout the childbearing cycle. The functional patterns associated with reproduction are presented. The nursing care, via the nursing process, of the well-defined childbearing family will be discussed. In addition, alterations in functional health patterns during the reproductive cycle will be presented. The concepts of culturally sensitive care, legal/ethical issues in care, current trends in women's health, and maternal-child health will provide a framework for discussion.
