This course provides an introduction to the major musical traditions of the world by emphasizing their diversity and uniqueness. The course focuses on folk, ethnic, dance, and ceremonial music from different regions of the Americas, Africa, Asia, Australia, and Europe. Concepts such as ethnicity, ethnocentrism, racism, and gender issues are addressed as they apply to each culture individually.
