English/ESL Placement: Placement into ENG 1060 or higher (or placement into ESL 2510 or higher for students taking the ESL sequence of courses).

The student will explain the role of the police, courts, and confinement facilities in modern society and discuss the need for criminal justice. He or she will identify constitutional restrictions placed on the law enforcement effort, study the organizational structure of police agencies, and define terms used in the processes of justice, the court system, and related agencies. In addition, the student will identify current police and community relations problems, recognize trends in modern policing, and methods applicable to improving the criminal justice system.
